Here is a photo from a reprint of the November 1956 issue of "Modern Railroads" magazine, pages 14-15. Photo Caption: "Diesel locomotives work 'under the wire' to help out during traffic peaks. PRR has enough electric locomotives to handle normal traffic. A more efficient operation today, gross ton miles per freight train hour rose from 37,150 in 1946 to 53,205 in 1955." Shown here at the Paoli Station (R to L) is PRR engine #5793 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5793 was constructed in May of 1952. Also visible at the left is PAOLI Tower. |
