PRR Eastbound Mineral Train, c. 1951
Baera 2. Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken just west of the 17th Street Bridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Shown here is an unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad "J" Class (2-10-4) "Texas" steam locomotive pulling a fully-loaded mineral train down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to the Eastbound Receiving Yards in Altoona. Note the Head-end Brakeman riding atop the eighth car back. He definitely deserves hazardous duty pay!
